Susan Robbins and Tom Fehily's award-winning Wildberry Bakery can be found in the village of Ballineen in beautiful West Cork. Their ethos is to create great flavours and textures, while upholding the traditional baking methods Susan was taught as a child. Their influences are French, but their passion is for Irish ingredients and the excellence of Irish food. Wildberry Bakery never uses preservatives or additives in any of their products.
The journey to Wildberry Bakery was the culmination of many paths for Tom and Susan. Their story began with the opening of the Riverlane Cafe in 2006, behind their village shop in West Cork. This shop, which sold everything from local cheeses to wellington boots, had been in Tom's family since 1922. Their backgrounds were not geared towards food either. Susan had a background in design, while Tom had studied accountancy before taking over the family business. Susan and Tom had always had a keen interest in food, so the opening of the Riverlane Cafe was a natural progression. It wasn't long before other cafes began to approach Tom and Susan to supply a variety of cakes. This business began to grow at a pace that could not be ignored. In order to pursue this aspect of the business, Tom and Susan decided to close the village shop and cafe, and replace it with a state of the art commercial bakery.
From small beginnings, servicing local businesses on their doorstep, Wildberry Bakery now services 32 counties. Tom and Susan have thoroughly enjoyed every step in their business journey, and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
